AFM Named "Safety Service Contractor of the Year

Mar. 20, 2008: The U.S. Naval Academy's Public Works Department recognized Academy Facility Maintenance (AFM) as 2007's "Safety Service Contractor of the Year", based on total man hours, job complexity, the number of OSHA recordable incidents, and lost work days.

In earning the award, AFM displayed excellence in safety procedures and precautions. Their efforts resulted in nearly 600 days since a lost-time incident which renders an employee unable to work by a doctor’s order. AFM recorded only one incident requiring medical attention in over 236,000 hours of work.

''It’s a goal we’ve worked hard to achieve - to have a positive Safety working culture and to work in a safe environment,'' said Dave Barry, AFM General Manager (shown above center, with DJI HSE Director, Jim Bates [L] and President, DEL-JEN Services Group, Rex Shaver [R]).

AFM is a joint venture between DEL-JEN and CES (EMCOR) that manages HVAC and the water plants at the Academy and takes care of transportation and general maintenance as well.
