Basic Function Summary:

Performs duties on a remote location on an island in the Aleutian chain. Performs various functions and incidental services associated with maintenance and repair of structural, body, frame, interior and associated components consisting of metal, fiberglass, fabric, and other materials on an array of motorized and non-motorized vehicles and equipment.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

Prepares collision/damage repair estimates, determines replacement

parts requirements, repairs, rebuilds and paints major body/frame assemblies, removes and installs parts for sub-assemblies, performs upholstery repair/replacement.

Inspects damages to determine extent and most economical means

of repair to return vehicle or equipment to acceptable condition or meets manufacturer’s specifications.

Straightens, files, smoothes, stretches, and welds sheet metal body

sections (with folds, wrinkles, and large tears), mainframes, frames cross-members, body structural members such as doorposts, doorframes, skeletal framework and main support members.

Manufactures and/or installs new or replacement items such as a variety

of braces, brackets, windows and windshield glass and truck beds. Straightens and repairs frames and frame cross-members, using hydraulic body jacks and jigs to align for welding and reinforcing to maintain frame integrity.

Fabricates sheet metal parts and sections using powered metal brake.

Welds light and medium gauge black iron, steel, cast, aluminum, stainless steel, alloys using oxygen/acetylene, arc, TIG and MIG welding.

Repairs fiberglass vehicle body components using glass mat, resins and

hardener to finish to specifications.

Undercoats vehicles and applies corrosion preventive materials to body,

frames and panels to meet requirements.

Uses a variety of tools and equipment commonly used in the trade such

as hand shears, hack saws, metal brakes, chisels, solder guns, files, hammers, bumping dollies, slide hammers, hydraulic body jacks, jigs, grinders, drills, sanders, welders, etc.

Reupholsters, patches, replaces seat covers, headliners, dashes, door

panels, etc using vinyl, vinyl repair material, and canvas.

Complies with Company rules and guidelines designed to ensure

adherence to State and Federal environmental laws and regulations.

Performs assigned work tasks without more than normal supervision

Accountable for hand tools and shop equipment.

Responds to a wide array of operational situations as they arise.

Performs normal maintenance on shop equipment and maintains

cleanliness of shop areas as required.

Deals with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner

in diversified situations.

Works closely and harmoniously with other employees.

Accountable for meeting contract requirements, company policies and

procedures and safety performance standards in compliance with all federal, state, local and company safety regulations.

Uses personal protective equipment as directed by the supervisor.

Responsible for prompt reporting of occupational accidents, incidents,

injuries, illnesses, property damage events, vehicle collisions, "near miss events”, hazardous situations and/or safety violations to immediate supervisor or site manager whether as a witness, participant or contributor to the situation.

Predictable, regular attendance required as well as timely and accurate

completion of work.

Must commit to a drug-and-alcohol free workplace.

May be called upon to perform snow removal duties.

Performs duties as required for Emergency Response Team.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Motor Equipment Metal Mechanic training and experience acquired

through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Five years experience in a motor pool or commercial maintenance facility.

Possess and maintain a valid State driver’s license.

Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License preferred.

Ability to pass a National Agency Check Clearance.

Ability to read, write, speak and understand American English.

Minimum High School graduate or equivalent.

Ability to work continuous 48 hour weeks.

Possess good interpersonal skills and ability to work as well

in a team environment.

Vision abilities required by the job include the ability to discern colors,

contrast, and depth.

Physical Demands

Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work is subject to

temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions to include snow, sleet, wind, rain, fog, dust, etc.

Conditions subject to odors and elevated noise levels.

Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft-carpeted

floors, cement structures and surfaces.

Employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods

at a time; sit; use hands and fingers; handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and ladders; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.

Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

using safe lifting techniques.
