Quality Management

At DEL-JEN, we're serious about continually improving the quality of our services. In 1999 we sought out a quality management system that could help us achieve our quality goals and found the tool we needed in the ISO 9000 Quality Management Series. DEL-JEN is currently certified to the ISO 9001-2000 Quality Management System at six contract sites.

Our Quality Management Systems give our employees stated objectives and built-in requirements for the performance thresholds for all work. We also seek out customer feedback, perceptions and expectations through active communication at the work site. This feedback enables our leads and managers to make the right decisions to immediately affect the customer. It also gives our senior management a window into project level performance and customer expectations.

The standard has helped us standardize many of our internal processes, metrics and reporting requirements. We also use required and regular internal auditing of our procedures at all of our certified sites to continually improve the level of our performance. The end result is that we do a better job and have more satisfied customers.

ISO 14001-2004

Environmental stewardship and sustainability are becoming increasingly important to our customers. Executive Order 13148 of April 21, 2000, Greening the Government Through Leadership in Environmental Management, instructs all Federal agencies to design and implement environmental management systems (EMS) at their facilities nationwide.

U.S. Government agencies are required to comply with environmental regulations by establishing and implementing environmental compliance audit programs and policies that emphasize minimizing and eliminating environmental impacts as a means to both achieve and maintain environmental compliance.

While the EO does not specify a standard, most agencies are embracing the ISO 14001-2004 standard (14K). This is the most widely recognized and used EMS standard in the world. Because the ISO 14001 and 9001 standards share the same core requirements, our sites with certified QMSs lead the industry in the development of an EMS.

DEL-JEN's 14K EMS at Laughlin AFB, Texas, was certified in 2004. As with our QMS, the lessons learned here will be shared with other sites as they develop their own EMSs.

Beyond a Family of Standards

The move in the standards world today is toward the consolidation of management standards. Standards on Health and Safety, Security and Social Responsibility will very likely be folded into the ISO family of standards in the coming years. In fact, we’ve implemented and registered an Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001 Health and Safety Program at Laughlin AFB under the same core system we use to run our ISO 9001 and 14001 programs. As in the past, DEL-JEN will be at the forefront of these developing requirements, ready to provide our customers with the very latest in efficient management systems.
